Untethered LED Lamp

CGI Example

Wireless LED Lamp Fixture

Functional design in a minimalist package intended for a wide range of uses and applications. Developed to utilize dependable, portable, USB recharcheable LED technology.

Design

Conventional lamps hold light bulbs, this lamp design holds a USB rechargeable LED fixture. This allows for an untethered lighting solution that can move around and function as you need it, unlike a traditional lamp. The rechargeable LED fixture is the new lightbulb. The lamp head is adjustable and the LED fixture easily snaps into the fixture magnetically. The lamp features 3 light intensity settings to better suit the specific use and application.

Construction

Hand made walnut fixture fastened to a sturdy steel base. Felt or leather on the underside of the base protects surfaces where the lamp will sit.

“A lamp that functions and looks beautiful indoors on a desk as it does outside on a picnic table.”

“Off grid living in style”

"Utility lighting elevated"

  • This lamp was designed to perform and fulfill multiple needs.
  • USB rechargeable from any USB power supply, computer, wall outlet, solar panel, car
  • Reducing cords and wires in my work space.
  • The freedom to move the lamp around my space and beyond.
  • A light source for when the power goes out. Emergency Light Source
  • A pleasing design that looks nice and equally meets the desired functions and applications.

Beyond "ME"- I believe that this light would fulfill a diverse range of needs and be a great solution for those needing untethered/Flexible/Portable lighting for a space or specific task, or just want a light source that functions in every room/space.

  • Outdoor vendors where power supply is limited or none(craft/art fairs/concert booths)
  • Outdoor spaces (dining, balcony, porch, BBQ)
  • Garage/Work Space where flexible lighting is needed on a task basis

I do not believe it is that far fetched in this day and age to market a battery/rechargeable "hi design(ugh..) lamp that is not simply a flashlight or strictly utilitarian light source.

We charge our phones and computers on a regular interval when 15-20 years ago we relied on hardwired phones and desktop workstations.

I look at this LED light fixture as a lightbulb. light fixtures/sources have been designed for hundreds of years around an existing technology whether it be the Edison bulb, fire, oil, candel, chemical....etc for a range of uses and aesthetic considerations, each with their own limitations and benefits, all based on what is available at the time.

Design Around Existing/Off Shelf Tech/Hardware Thoughts/Considerations/Issues

How does designing a product based around and/or incorporating an existing technology add to and detract from the overall end product in terms of design, function, marketability, reception, and ownership of design.

Using off the shelf, available, tested, and approved technology has many benefits.

  • tried and true hardware/light source
  • fixture carries UL approval
  • readily available
  • no need for wiring/electrical considerations
  • light fixture is small form factor that incorporates LED tech, USB tech, Rechargeable tech...couldn’t do this on my own.
  • design/development costs are significantly lower using this existing light source.

Using off the shelf, available, tested, and approved technology also has some issues that may detract from the design and reception. Need to put these in perspective and figure out balance.

  • Ownership of design?
  • patent issues?
  • does using this water down/cheapen the design and product?
  • simplicity of design and incorporation of off the shelf tech could lead to copying or turn people off?

I do believe that there is an area within the world of design that appreciates and accepts the idea/development in designing around and incorporating off the shelf tech to fulfill a product design\function\need.

The fundamental characteristic of my design and end product is simply a holder for an existing/off shelf product. This existing/off shelf product is extremely functional and utilitarian in its purpose yet this purpose, function, and value occupies a narrow market that does not consider the full potential of this tech nor the potential consumers/users/new markets based on a marriage of utilitarian hardware and thoughtful design aesthetics/function.

The Untethered Lamp concept elevates and expand an existing utility product/tech to fulfill many more uses, needs, functions, and aesthetic considerations.
